I just purchased Reflect 8 and didn’t know there would be a new release.
Firstly, if you want to continue using Macrium Reflect 8, you can (whether you have an annual plan or a one-time license). However, you also have options:
I purchased an annual plan
One advantage of the annual plan is that you can always access the latest version. You can upgrade anytime during your active subscription or remain on Reflect 8. Support will continue for the product's life (we will continue to provide technical support for Reflect 8 until further notice, with system-critical updates and fixes guaranteed for one year after the release of Reflect X).
I purchased a one-time license
If you purchased on or after July 1st, 2024, you have three options;
Home users have 6 months from the launch of Reflect X to decide which option suits them best. Step-by-step instructions to obtain either option from the grace period will be published this week.
For Reflect Home users who purchased V8 before July 1, 2024:
You are eligible for two options. The first option is 50% off Annual plans for life. Option 2 is our “Better than Black Friday 2024 Offer:” 3 years for the price of 2:
If you choose 50% off annual plans for life, you will have to trade in your current Reflect Home V8 license.
If you choose 3 years for the price of 2, you can keep your Reflect Home V8 license. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)
For Home V6 & V7: We are offering 3 years for the price of two. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)This offer ends March 31st 2025.
Why have you removed the one-time license option?
Since introducing the annual plans over 15 months ago, we’ve seen exciting growth in subscriber numbers. More importantly, moving to annual plans allows us to redefine how we deliver Reflect X in the future.
We plan to release important features more regularly in the future. This will drive our desire to offer continuous innovation to keep Reflect X the best backup and recovery software available. Lastly, our annual plan ensures you always have access to technical support (one-time licenses only offered 12 months of support), which improves your experience in the long term.
How long will you continue to support Reflect 8?
As with our previous releases, we will continue to support Reflect 8 with system-critical updates and fixes for one year after the release of Reflect X - October 2025. However, we recommend moving to Reflect X for the most secure and up-to-date version.
I own multiple one-time licenses. Can I upgrade only a few of my licenses?
Yes - you can upgrade one, some or all of your licenses, but note that a 4-pack cannot be partially upgraded! Please see our other upgrades and offers for validity.
I own a 4-pack license. Can I upgrade this?
Yes, the 4-pack license can be upgraded, but at present, all the licenses would be traded in simultaneously. The offer available to you is the same as though you had a single licence.
To calculate the 50% discount for life trade-in, we use the price after the volume discount (currently $99.98, € 83.98, £73.98), so getting 50% off for life would reduce the annual cost to $49.99, €41.99 and £36.99 respectively.
Can I upgrade my one-time license to a Reflect X Annual Plan?
Yes. If you purchased a one-time Reflect 8 license on or before June 30th, 2024, you can choose one of the following offers:
Step-by-step instructions to obtain either option for upgrade will be published this week.If you purchased after the 30th June, refer to the offer above.

Can I purchase a multi-year plan?
At this time, we’re only offering multi-year plans exclusively to existing home customers, through our upgrade programme.
Why should I upgrade to Reflect X?
Reflect X is the most advanced version of Reflect yet. By using advanced data compression techniques and optimized multithreading processes, our backup and recovery is now two times faster without putting additional strain on your system.
For users of Copilot ARM devices, Reflect X is the only backup software that offers boot menu recovery and bare metal restore - highlighting our commitment to innovation.
Resumable imaging and making our backup files open source also highlight our ongoing commitment to deliver feature-rich, market-leading backup and recovery software, without holding you (or your data) hostage.
I have a one-time license, why should I upgrade to an Annual Plan?
The Annual Plan allows you to benefit from the most up-to-date version of Reflect and continuous technical support. Once you’re onboard with a Reflect Annual Plan, you can trust you’re protected by the most current version available.
I’m on a version older than Reflect 8. What options do I have?
We are offering 3 years for the price of two. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.) This offer ends March 31st 2025.
I’m currently on a subscription of Reflect 8, what happens for me?
We hope you’ll want to upgrade to Reflect X, but you are not obligated to do so. When Reflect X is released, you will receive a notification in Reflect that will guide you through the upgrade process. If you’re not ready to upgrade immediately, you may initiate the upgrade at any point during your subscription period.
Technical Support for Reflect 8 will continue until further notice, with system-critical updates and fixes guaranteed for one year after the release of Reflect X.
Can I try Reflect X before making a commitment to switch?
Reflect X will be available for a free 30-day trial when we release the product on October 8th.
Reflect X uses a new image file format - mrimgx. These files are not compatible with Reflect 8. However, Macrium Reflect X will continue to use the old mrimg file format when appending (incrementals and differentials) to existing Macrium Reflect 8 backup sets.
We strongly recommend having a full copy of backups before trialing Reflect X.
Do I need to update my rescue media after upgrading to Reflect X?
Yes. After upgrading to Reflect X, you must rebuild your rescue media. Rescue media created with Reflect 8 cannot be used to restore backups created with Reflect X. This is due to the new mrimgx file format used in Reflect X. To ensure you can recover your system in case of emergency, please rebuild your rescue media immediately after upgrading to Reflect X.

I bought Reflect 8 after April 1st 2024, what happens to me after the launch of Reflect X?

If you purchased on or after April 1st, 2024, you have two options;
However, even without a license, Reflect always allows you to restore/recover your data (you won’t be able to make new backups). We’ve also made your backup files open-source - it’s your data and you own it.
Business users have 6 months from the launch of Reflect X to decide which option suits them best.
Purchased before April 1st 2024
If you purchased a Reflect 8 perpetual license before April 1, 2024 and have active Support & Maintenance, you are eligible for 33% off on 1, 3, and 5 Year Annual Plans. You will get immediate access to Reflect X and your subscription start dates will be pro-rated to the end of your current Support & Maintenance period. This offer is valid until September 30th 2025.
LTSC edition: Alternatively, you can stay on Reflect 8 and migrate to our Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) edition and get a free upgrade when the new LTSC edition becomes available.
For Business users on V6, V7, V8 out of support: We are offering 33% off on 1, 3, and 5 Year Annual Plans. This offer is valid until March 31st 2025.
Why have you removed the one-time license option for Reflect X?
Many of our business customers' feedback indicated a preference for the certainty provided by an annual plan. The annual plan offers assurance that you always have access to the latest version with innovations such as improvements we’ve made in compression speeds and algorithms. It also ensures you have access to critical updates and are protected against new threats and risks. Lastly, our annual plan ensures you always have access to technical support.
However, we also recognize that many OEM customers and customers with critical infrastructure need stable versions with minimal feature updates. So, we will continue offering one-time licenses with built-in support and maintenance and have LTSC editions available. These will only be available by contacting one of our sales experts or your trusted reseller for more information.
How long will you continue to support Reflect 8?
As with our previous releases, we will continue to support Reflect 8 with system-critical updates and fixes for one year after the release of Reflect X. However, we recommend moving to Reflect X for the most secure and up-to-date version.
We will continue to offer technical support for Reflect 8 until further notice. Contact one of our Customer Success specialists or your licensing partner to ensure a smooth transition to Reflect X.
What is SiteBackup, and how does it fit into SiteManager?
We recognised that the SiteManager name, particularly the concept of “MALs” (Macrium Agent Licenses), could be more straightforward. So, we’ve rebranded SiteManager to highlight that it is the platform for SiteDeploy and SiteBackup; hence, the name is now the SiteManager Platform.
SiteBackup is our centralized backup and restore solution (SiteBackup Seats now replace “MALs” and have no minimum quantities), and SiteDeploy remains the name for our scaled remote image deployment solution.
What is the difference between SiteBackup and Reflect X? How are they licensed? How do I purchase?
Reflect X is our flagship backup and recovery solution for standalone machines on an individual basis. It is ideal for businesses that have a small number of systems to backup or have systems that need to be partially or fully air-gapped (we now even offer offline activation of our software).
SiteBackup provides a much more scalable and centrally managed solution for businesses, built using the same expertise and technology that powers Reflect X. SiteBackup reduces your total cost of ownership by allowing you to install, manage and monitor backup agents remotely and at scale, with additional functionality for available reporting.
For businesses, Reflect X can be purchased for either Workstation or Server installation, based on their intended use, with subscriptions available for each. Subscriptions can be purchased individually (via our website) or for Enterprise purchases (via our Sales/Reseller teams).
SiteBackup Seats can also be purchased as subscriptions for workstations or servers online or through our Sales Experts or Resellers for Enterprise purchases. Feel free to contact us (or one of our resellers) if you would like to purchase an Enterprise plan tailored to your needs.
