Dentius has been relying on Macrium backup and imaging technology since 2016. All licenses are deployed and managed by Macrium Site Manager and MultiSite. Macrium has asked John Du Preez, the IT Manager of Dentius, to share their story why they chose Macrium over other solutions.

#### Challenges

Dentius has dental practices all around Belgium. As the company has been growing and opening new sites, the ability to manage all locations and have a “single pane of glass” became a challenge.

Before discovering Macrium, Dentius was using several different solutions at the same time to cover their needs.  _"The idea is that every dental practice, in general, knows that they need to backup, but that has been interpreted in multiple ways. Generally speaking, as we incorporate the new practices in our group, I found that we were running various solutions for backing-up. That could be anything from an application that was completely over-the-top for the current needs, or it could be a home-based solution that I thought was not adequate.”_

The challenge was to consolidate all the needs in one solution, not just having the same tool installed on all workstations, but also to have all sites connected to a central management tool. _“The first challenge was to find something that really brought us all together and started to consolidate our practices in terms of backing-up. It was important for us was to be able to monitor and keep on eye on the practices."_

Scalability and automation of the process are essential for any growing company.  _“Before starting to use Macrium, it was a very manual process; I would have to run through practice to practice to see their status and to make sure everything was okay. As we continue to grow, that became a scaling issue. We got to the point that we needed something more scalable and manageable, and frankly something that was also more consistent.”_

#### How did Macrium help?

Macrium Site Manager and MultiSite helped Dentius to address their critical challenges – scalability and an ability to control and monitor all backup installations. _"As we added new practices, the hope was to have a standardised approach and that we could simplify the solution, and we could install in a standardised way. Incorporate a single dashboard, so we can keep one eye on a centralised space. That is why we came to Macrium."_

The Site Manager dashboard is customisable, enabling you to prioritise the display of relevant metrics and alerts. This makes it easier to spot failing backups and provides an administrator with the tools to identify problems. Backup definitions are easy to create as well as, assigning schedules and retention policies, and manage backup repositories. It includes comprehensive event management, alerts and security logging. The architecture leverages commonly used Microsoft Windows technologies and requires no specialist skills to install and configure.

Macrium MultiSite addresses the scaling issue and allows Dentius to plan the expansion of the operations.  _“The selling point was MultiSite; I think we had already invested in Macrium before that point anyway, but I thought MultiSite is something that fitted our long-term vision as well.”_

This platform is a cloud-based solution, and it is very simple

and quick to directly connect to a Site Manager instance from within the management console enabling a single point of administration and reporting for all your Site Manager installations. There is no limitation in the number

of installations that you can control with MultiSite. Moreover, you can see everything at a glance, with rolled-up reporting, alerts, and an easy to use backup management tool.

_"MultiSite was absolutely the most fundamentally important aspect of the software as a whole. I interact with it daily and it allows me to organise a really dispersed group of practices all across Belgium (and soon across France and Germany as well). We were struggling to manage the geographical dispersion, and now with the use of MultiSite it has become something that is scalable and manageable. It is great value for me; by far the most valuable aspect of Reflect."_

#### Results

As a result, Dentius implement the strategy of use Macrium Reflect every day.

It was co-founded by three dentists and strives to cooperate with good, motivated dentists in the sector and to support them in providing quality, efficient and above all patient-oriented care.

<h2>Macrium Reflect for fast and reliable backups</h2>
<p>The sensitive task of protecting the data from all Windows computers of Elettonica FM has been entrusted to Macrium Reflect.</p>
<p><strong>Elettronica FM S.r.l.</strong> is a company that produces circuit boards and electronic devices for third parties.</p>
<p>The company was founded in 1984 and, in addition to its productive capacity, offers a consolidated experience in electronic systems design.</p>
<p>Elettronica FM S.r.l. is about to move to new premises, of 7500 square meters. This will allow them to add more production lines. They currently have around 140 employees and use over 220 personal computers.</p>
<p>In 2015, the CEO Mauro Ferrari decided to build and invest in his home town* by realising the first self-sufficient Class A++ industrial facility, in order to reduce indirect production costs and allow the company to be more competitive in the global market.</p>
<h4>Requirements</h4>
<p>The company needed be able to restore a great number of personal computers, both for office use and production line control, in case of hardware or software malfunction. Their previous backup software was not able to fulfil this requirement with the same immediacy and simplicity.</p>
<p>The evaluation of other possible solutions lasted over a year. A number of image based backup solutions were tested but the only one that fulfilled all the company&rsquo;s requirements was Macrium Reflect.</p>
<p>Other solutions, even though they allow the creation of disk images, lacked a central management console or domain integration or they required more resources in order to run.</p>
<p>Even though Macrium Reflect was already known to the company, the Brescia-based reseller Nanosoft suggested the use of Site Manger a free centralized solution for backup management of the PCs in the network.</p>
<p>The sensitive task of protecting the data from all Windows computers of Elettonica FM has been entrusted to Macrium Reflect.</p>
<h4>The Macrium Solution</h4>
<p>For a company with more than 100 pcs, a mandatory requirement was the availablity of a central management console to manage all the PCs in a domain and have a full feedback on backup operation.</p>
<p>Macrium Site Manager allows the deployment of Agents on all PCs, saving a lot of time for the IT manager of the company.</p>
<p>Thanks to the fact that Macrium Reflect is compatible with any Windows opeating system from Windows XP service pack 3, it was possible to install it in all the machines in the company without exception.</p>
<h4>The Results</h4>
<p>Thanks to the adoption of Macrium Reflect, Elettronica FM S.r.l. can count on a real-time, centralized monitoring system for periodic backups of all Pcs.</p>
<p>The technical support offered by the reseller, Nanos, was very useful in the initial installation phase to resolve some issues with the communication between the Agents and Site Manager, to understand the reason why there were VSS errors in some cases and to set up the most appropriate configuration for the company needs.</p>
<p>The integrated restore in a new hardware functionality of Macrium Reflect, allows the company to replace malfunctioning machines without the necessity of having the same hardware on the new machine.</p>
<p>When asked if he was satisfied Dr. Gabriele Vaccari answered:</p>

<p>"On a scale from 0 to 10, I would say 7.5 that for my standards is a good degree of satisfaction"</p>

<h4>Conclusions</h4>
<p>Elettronica FM S.r.l considers that Macrium Reflect works very well for the main purpose it was purchased: to generate image backups and restore them at a later time.</p>
<p>The new console for central management, Macrium Site Manager, with all its functionality and the constant improvements and additions of new features, is without a doubt the tool that turned out to be essential for the use of the product in a complex structure like Elettronica FM S.r.l. with the necessity to manage and to monitor a high number of machines.</p>

Elettronica FM needed be able to restore a great number of personal computers, both for office use and production line control, in case of hardware or software malfunction. Their previous backup software was not able to fulfil this requirement with the same immediacy and simplicity.

Macrium Software Launches Deployment Product with Potential to Save IT Professionals “Days of Work”

MANCHESTER, UK (17th May 2023)  - [Macrium Software](https://www.macrium.com), the industry leader in image-based backup and recovery software, has announced the launch of Macrium SiteDeploy®, a new product with the potential to save IT professionals days of work on Windows operating system (OS) deployment. 

In a digitally transforming world, the need for organizations to access and restore their devices remotely and at scale, whether PCs, laptops, thin clients or servers, is only becoming greater. 

Macrium SiteDeploy® is designed to reduce the number of manual steps performed during the deployment process. This can significantly cut complexity and reduce deployment time, potentially saving IT teams days of work*. 

For example, deploying 100 Windows PCs using Macrium SiteDeploy® with Microsoft Sysprep answer file injection could equate to a time saving of 16 hours, or two working days, compared to the manual processes widely used in the industry. This could free up time, resources and budget for businesses to focus on strategic priorities and innovation.

“Despite how crucial and ubiquitous it is across all organizations and industries, creating and deploying images remains a headache for IT professionals,” explained Nick Sills, CEO of Macrium Software. 

“A  full deployment process can involve many manual steps. This means it often takes significantly longer than projected, costing businesses time and money. On the other hand, much of the software on the market to automate deployment includes convoluted features. These are often unnecessary and can get very expensive, very quickly.”

Imaging and deployment are required in many scenarios across most businesses and organizations. It enables multiple or large numbers of endpoints - e.g., computers, servers or thin clients, to be built or restored to a set state. This standardizes OSs, so apps, software and security settings run consistently across devices. It also reduces the time and resources needed and offers greater control over configuring and managing IT infrastructure. 

### Cutting complexity 

A common challenge with imaging and deployment is how complicated the deployment process can become. One of the causes of this is the need for businesses to deploy to different types of hardware. Using Macrium’s proprietary software ReDeploy and Driver Harvesting, Macrium SiteDeploy® can alleviate this by ensuring deployments work across disparate hardware. Macrium SiteDeploy® also automates partition resizing, taking away yet another step often performed manually by IT admins.

Its intuitive dashboard empowers users to deploy, monitor and manage large volumes of endpoints from one place. Offering greater control over system and process management, Macrium SiteDeploy® also allows IT admins to organize images and repositories using custom tags, even at scale.

### Faster deployment 
Another key aim behind the development of Macrium SiteDeploy® is to cut the time deployment takes. With a built-in Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) and the ability to inject templated answer files for Microsoft Sysprep, Macrium SiteDeploy® can save hours in setup time. The answer file allows admins to reduce manual configuration and bypass the out-of-box experience with preconfigured admin accounts and active directory settings.

The launch of Macrium SiteDeploy® comes following a two-month beta testing program. The response from early adopters, who ranged from Sysadmins at SMEs and large businesses to PC build technicians and IT professionals in healthcare and education, has been “overwhelmingly positive”, continued Sills.

<p>Nigel has been using Macrium Reflect for around 8 years now as a home user, and within a business environment, Macrium Reflect has been his imaging tool of choice for four years now.</p>

<p>Nigel has found Macrium Reflect particularly helpful when a lot of his clients were coming to him for help on managing the Windows 10 upgrade.
