Log Window

The log window displays backup execution and completion statuses for both scheduled and manual backups, and is a useful tool to determine if a scheduled backup has completed as expected.

To access the log click on the 'Log' tab in the main window:

The Log view consists of two panes, the 'Date Tree' and the log window. To access a specific log navigate to the date in the date tree and expand it by clicking on the '+' sign. Selecting a time in the tree causes the log to be displayed.

Each log is denoted with one of two icons:

The backup completed successfully.

The backup could not be completed because an error occurred.

Typical errors are:

Error

Description

Unable to lock 'X:\'

  • Some other low level access was happening to the partition being backed up.

  • Reflect was not installed correctly. Try reinstalling the software.

No Destination image to append to.

  • The destination drive was not available. If the destination is a network or USB drive then make sure that your USB or Network connection is present.

  • An incremental or Differential backup was scheduled but there was no full backup image in the destination directory.

Error reading Image file

A scheduled task was attempting to append to a full image that could not be read due to errors in the file.

At least one partition on the Image to append to cannot be found

An incremental or differential backup was attempting to append to a full image that contained the backup of a partition that cannot be located on the current system.

Open file operation failed

A failed attempt was made to open / create the destination Image file.

No space on destination drive

A scheduled task has run out of space on the destination drive.

Write operation failed

The destination image file could not be written to. If the destination directory was a network directory then the network could have failed.

Scheduled start time missed

Either the computer was not switched on or another backup was running when a scheduled task was due to run. To avoid this error then check the box '~If missed then run at next start up' in the scheduled task wizard.

Unable to open file handle for '//PHYSICALDRIVE0'

Another process was directly accessing the disk that contains the partition being imaged. Try closing all open programs and starting again.

Unable to initialize volume snap control

A device driver used to take a snap shot (a point in time) of the disk could not be loaded. Try reinstalling Reflect.

Unable to write index

The destination image file could not be written to. If the destination directory was a network directory then the network could have failed.

Unable to read from disk - Error Code 23

Your disk has at least one bad sector in use by the file system. When Reflect creates a partition image it has to read every disk sector that is used by the file system. Normally Windows ensures that bad sectors are not used. However, this error indicates that your disk may be failing.

Open a command prompt and run the following command:

chkdsk X: /r /f   (Replace X: with the correct drive letter)

This operation will scan your disk for bad sectors and will require you to reboot your PC. It may take some time. After completion you should be able to image your disk. You should replace your disk as soon as possible to prevent any further loss of data.
